That is the question.
It has been interesting to suddenly go from almost 5 days a week delivering face to face programs to all virtual programs using predominantly Zoom. I like Zoom but it still doesn’t feel that same as delivering to a room of active participants. My Zoom audiences have been great. But there are often long pauses where nobody answers a question and often I can’t see them as they don’t have cameras or don’t want to use them.
Today I am going to be delivering a full day Zoom session on Strategic management. Not an easy topic face to face but with 10 people in the virtual class room it will be challenging. Then the day after I will be delivering a three day face to face safety leadership program observing all social distancing rules. I’ll let you know which one I prefer but you might have already guessed.
One thing I would like to add about Zoom sessions. They really need to be fine tuned over time. Some aspects work and some don’t and you don’t know till you try them out. I have adjusted all of my zoom programs many times till I am happy with how they work. You need mores slides than you think and more ways of getting interaction.
Any way hopely we will all be getting back to some face to face training but also I hope there will be some virtual training as well. Its good not to be travelling all of the time and some short sessions for many organisations are quite effective. I had the pleasure of delivering to Uber managers in India recently and I would never have had the chance to do that unless it was via elearning.
