I often get asked by students why they should write a blog. Occasional in training programs that I have conducted the use of a blog or a reflective learning journal is part of the assessment process and again participants question the reasoning behind having to complete one. Dr Helen Barrett is acknowledged as a world expert in the use of ePortfolios and reflective learning and you will find many documents and research articles on her web site. I want to draw your attention to one area of her web page devoted to reflection which I believe covers the area very well and allows you to explore the issues and theory behind reflective learning.
That’s the theory side of things but I recently watched this short video clip and I think Seth Godin and Tom Peters comments are exactly why you should have a blog. If you don’t know who those two characters are its time for you to do a quick web search. Seth Godin’s blog is excellent and even though it is predominantly about Marketing he has many great insights which are worth reading.
