Please read this article. I am constantly amazed by the way we replicate concepts in education that don’t have a good track record. It wouldn’t be a problem if you tried to change some aspect of the approach to overcome the short comings of what is often a new approach but when you just perpetuate an approach that doesn’t work with no modifications of significance then you are just stupid. The voucher system appears flawed. I work in the system and to be honest it just seems a big cop out. To me it is an approach which says give everyone (who doesn’t already have a qualification) the feeling that they can have something valuable for free and let them choose what they think is important even if their judgement is flawed. We may or may not achieve anything as a nation by this approach. To me it is like letting every unqualified person (only those without qualifications qualify for a voucher) conduct their own training needs analysis. Could that possibly be effective? It is just another handout. A blatant, vote grabbing handout that further weakens the future of this country. The alternative? What do you think?
Ok, so that is my rant for the week but as a I watch another significant change about to occur to the education system with what appears to be very little consultation I get concerned. Why don’t we try something different. It maybe creative and innovative but I would rather fail doing that than repeating something that already appears flawed just because we don’t have anything else.
