A few days ago I posted an article titled Trail and Error Training. Basically I was saying that to improve as a trainer you have to try new things and expect some to fail. I came across this post which outlines 10 great failures. It is an interesting read about how some great people failed often before they became successful. It is just a reminder that if you are trying to be a great trainer you will most likely need to fight your way through a series of failures.
The classic blog question here would be when have you failed and what did you learn? I don’t expect anyone to comment on that as trainers never seem to tell anyone about their failures. I have made some awesome failures and lived to learn and try again. I have also made some of the normal small mistakes during a session that make you wonder what you were thinking (or not) when you planned them. That’s training. It’s not meant to be an exact science. If you think it is you have forgotten that you are working with people and they will always surprise you in both positive and negative ways.
