One of the key concepts we are all taught as trainers is that to get someone to learn we must have some form of reinforcement. This could be internal and external. Seems like common sense and essential. What if this was potential misleading. Read the article and reflect on the research presented.
I’ve been marking assignments this morning. I wrote comments like excellent, spot on, very good answer etc. I have reinforced one particular answer to a very specific set question. What will happen if the next time the participant encounters a similar question but a slightly different set of specifications (but in real life)? Most likely they will produce the same answer that I responded positively too. This could be inaccurate for this question, this time.
I don’t have a great answer to this but it does raise the question of what is a right and wrong answer in a case study and exam approach to assessment?
