The A to Z of excellent trainer traits competition – Part 1

This is the first of six blog posts which will be made on each Monday covering the A to Z of excellent trainer traits. Of course there will be four letters each Monday but one of them will be left up to you, the reader, to comment on. I will leave the comments open for the week and choose the best three comments. First place will get 3 points, second place 2 points and third place 1 point. At the end of the six weeks we will have a winner (most points) who will get the Customer Service Training program.  If you want to read more about the customer service program please click here. Lets get this competition under way then and good luck to all of you.

A – Assertive.  This is an important ability that should not be mistaken for aggressive which is a big no no for trainers. At times you need to be assertive with a client, learner and/or group. Assertiveness is the ability to speak your mind and influence others while maintaining control and respect for the listeners. Often in training you have to say things that people will not like or disagree with but it is the job to ensure that they see your point and its worth. This is particularly important when the training program is dealing with any change in work practices

B – Balance.  The ability to have a balanced view in the training environment. This simply means understanding the different points of view, likes and dislikes and attitudes of others and being able to understand why they think this way. You don’t have to agree (see assertive above) but you do need to acknowledge that the views exist and why they exist even before they are expressed. As an excellent trainer you must also express a balanced view on most occasions that recognises and respects others views.

C – Creativity. An excellent trainer is a creative person. They create different and varied lessons, resources and activities and encourage creativity in their learners. They also have to be creative on their feet. Thinking of new and different ways to explain a difficult concept to a group who just isn’t getting it. The trainers creativity is inspiring, motivating and fun.

D -?

The first letter then for you the readers  is the letter D. You will need to comment below to enter the competition. Just state the word that starts with a D and then explain why this word is an important trainer trait.
