For vigilant readers of this blog you may have noticed that there was no weekly review yesterday. This was due to the fact that I was on Lizard Island for a week and it was basically impossible to post a report on the week. So here is my weekly review. All teachers, trainers, educators and whatever else you might want to call yourself need a good, solid, week away from people all together to clear your head and reset your motivation. People, students, administrators etc can get you down at times and even though those same people can often be the very thing that inspires you if you don’t get a good break from it you can become very jaded and end up forgetting that the job is all about people and motivating them requires that you be motivated first. Also if you start to not like learning then how can you inspire others to learn?
My week on Lizard Island cleared my head of just about everything, except for the small cold that I took there. Yes, there are people there too but generally speaking they stay away from you and the idea is isolation from noise, distractions and frustrations. You don’t have to go there to achieve this same affect. I have been thinking about it today and I plan on getting some peace and quiet weekly to refresh myself and keep me inspired. I can do this running, reading, playing music etc but it must be alone and concentrated ie not thinking about work or checking emails and doing some filing. Clear your head for just 30 minutes a day in what ever way works for you. It is critical.
