Solving problems is a big part of what trainers do. I feel like that is all I have be doing this week. It starts with how do we find out what our people and organisation need ie skills, knowledge, behaviours? Problem. Then we move to what sort of training can we provide to remove the performance gap? Problem. Then someone says, can you write that type of training program? Problem. Can you write the assessment tool? Problem. Can you deliver this every Wednesday? Problem. How? Problem. And once you start the program there are a constant stream of individual participant problems to solve. Don’t get me wrong. I am not complaining. That is the job and I love solving problems. Am I problem solving effectively? I don’t really know but I seem to be reasonably successful. My biggest problem at present is time. But I am working on that too.
How can you solve problems more effectively? Daniel Pink has a few ideas. Read this recent post by him. I am a bit of a fan of his third idea. Sleeping on a problem or going for a run seems to work for me when I am getting no where. Here are some great tools by MindTools. How do you solve problems? Let me know.
