Project Management Software (e-learning tool of the week)

I have written in previous posts that all good trainers need to have at least some basic project management skills. The whole process of training from TNA to actual delivery is a quite a  complex project. On the really big training roll-outs a full on project management approach is required. The standard software in the area of project management is Microsoft Project and there is no doubt that it is the best. But it is very complicated and pretty expensive, particularly if you do not use it often.

There are some great alternatives on the Internet and I would like to recommend two of them that I have found to be very useful and they are to a certain extent free. A new one that I have just played with is Tom’s Planner. Looks great and it is easy to use. It is a mouse operated system which will appeal to many people. It doesn’t do costs but it works very well with time, task and resources and you can share it with another person over the Internet.

Another free online project management tool is Gantter which has more features than Tom but also has few drawbacks. Have a play with both of them and let me know what you think.
