It is a tough job trying to predict what the future of education will look like. Many try. Many fail. It is precarious because it is changing rapidly as technology changes and as we as people change. Bill Gates has had his go at it (please read article and watch video here) recently and he reckons that the Internet will replace the traditional university in five years. Many may scoff at that as it is a very short period of time but is it? Check out these fascinating facts about Facebook. Facebook has put on 400 million new users in the last two years. Who would have believed that? Facebook, love it or hate it, is a social network that allows the distribution and display of photo’s, videos and text. An online university really isn’t all that much different if you think about it. Maybe there will be a social university that utilizes social media technology and LMS type systems eg Moodle in the very near future. Whoops – now I am trying to predict the future.
