This might seem like a odd topic to bring up in a training, education and assessment blog but I came across this post the other day called How to begin people watching and it reminded me that I have recommended to new trainers and other groups that I have delivered to that one of the best ways to understand people, body language, communication, relationships and group dynamics is to find a crowded place and sit back and watch. When oblivious to being watched people are themselves and do some of the oddest things. It really is quite enjoyable but it can also be very informative. Obviously the key thing is to not get caught and that is why I recommend crowded busy places as no one will notice you watching from time to time. Shopping malls, busy clubs and busy streets.

Ok – so you might feel a little uncomfortable the first time but treat it as an experiment and remember you are trying to learn not watch in a voyeuristic way. I know that the adult groups that I have taken out and asked them to watch people found it very helpful in understanding people. As trainers we must know and understand people. This is just one to do that.
