A lot of my students and many others are tackling the competency unit Make a presentation as part of their Certificate IV in TAE. For some this is their first, real, out in front of a strange audience, presentation and that can be a daunting task. Here is a good link to some very good advice on delivering an effective presentation. My own tips are simple:
- Be yourself – you will feel more comfortable and relaxed
- Be prepared – put all the time you can into getting the words right
- Keep it simple and tell at least one story – we all love stories
I tried to find a good video on presentations but I didn’t think that any of them were particularly good. I did find some great speeches from some expert presenters but I have added a speech below which I hope you enjoy. The quality isn’t great but the speech is about as perfect as you can get because it works. The presenter is a child and hence she would have had very little experience but she makes up for this in being herself, in getting the words right and telling stories. Everyone has the capacity to make good presentations. Make your next one something you will be proud of.
