New Years Resolutions for Educators

What are your New Years Resolutions? Do you have any at all? I checked a few online resources and it appears that the most common resolutions are:

Drink Less Alcohol
Eat Healthy Food
Get a Better Education
Get a Better Job
Get Fit
Lose Weight
Manage Debt
Manage Stress
Quit Smoking
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
Save Money
Take a Trip
Volunteer to Help Others

(see this link for further info)

I don’t really have any resolutions yet. Mine generally emerge after January when the holiday period comes to an end and I start to seriously think about about work and the year ahead. This year I am off to a flying start and have actually started doing some work today which is very unusual but I’m not complaining as I think it will be a tough year ahead. Time to start thinking about those resolutions. It reminded me of a video I did a while ago (see below or at this link). I had a lot of fun this year but there are many things that I don’t need to do that aren’t much fun and aren’t required. My first resolution is going to be to eliminate the aspects of my business that aren’t fun, aren’t required and add no value.

By the way if you really have trouble with keeping resolutions (and most people do) try out 21habit which is a goal setting site. Basically you can write a goal and try to keep it for 21 days and it tracks your progress. If you are very brave you can pay $21 and for every day you achieve the goal it gives you a dollar back. You fail a day and it goes to charity. Great idea and a good way to keep you on target.
