Please read the interesting article below about a significant experiment in school education design. Good to see that something is happening in this space rather than some of the stupid moves that have been made over the last 5 plus years (don’t get me started).
So when is the VET sector going to get SMART! I remember back in 1990 something delivering training to experienced trainers about the virtues of competency based training and assessment. I believed in it as I still do for some aspects but in the last few years, particularly 2018 I have seen a woeful return to micro-assessment and training to assessment requirements. The exact opposite of what is going on in the article above. What happened to holistic assessment? I spent a good chunk of 2018 writing assessments that are the exact opposite of holistic or work based which all now meet ASQA requirements. I trained participants with the overall objective of getting them through assessment – not to actually learn anything useful. Is 2019 the year it will all change for the VET sector. I doubt it.
