I had a very interesting discussion with a colleague about a program I will be running soon, It is on emotional intelligence. Complex concept and many ways you can tackle it as a facilitator. One way is to venture into meditation. I have written posts on this before. I understand that not everyone is open to meditation but the data is out there. It is effective. You maybe a doubter. That is ok. Here is a good video to get you to think about the science behind meditation from Dan Goleman, the guru of EI, and who has been doing deep research into EI, meditation and mindfulness.
