I get a bit sick of new terms for old things. Life long learning, experiential learning, action learning etc etc. Learning occurs all the time in so many different ways who cares what we call it. In fact let’s just call it LEARNING. This morning I was going for a run and I:
- was listening to a podcast about an Indian author I had never heard of
- was taking in lots of visual facts about the local area that I hadn’t run through for a while
- said hello to a number of people and exchanged information about the weather
- learnt a few things about my body limits and pains
- thought of this idea for a blog post
- planned out the weekend
- tried out a couple of options for a training session next week
All that in a 40 minute run. Fitter, healthier, more knowledgable.
Learning is just life. Life is learning. Next time you plan a training session get out of the way and let the learning have life and be part of life. Learning that doesn’t involve life and is not part of life serves no purpose. What do you think?
