I have been critical of lectures in the past as they are not the most effective way of teaching people but they are still useful. While watching the video below I reflected on my own experience of lectures and realised that I really do enjoy them, but only if the lecturer has at least some ability and the content has some interest. I have learnt a great deal through the lecture format. As many of you know I am also a big fan of MOOC’s and over the weekend while completing some MOOC activities I also realised that the dominant form of delivery for MOOC’s is the lecture. Yes, it is a video and it generally has supporting graphics but it is still a lecture. So the lecture is not dead and strangely enough it is going to make a big comeback as we move to more and more video based learning. Sounds good to me.
