Great article here on how exercise can make you smarter. I have run all my life, essentially not for health reasons but because I have always enjoyed it, I find it relaxing and it helps me to work through problems. I know that I feel better after exercise and I know that when I am injured or sick for a period of time a lack of exercise can make me feel lethargic, irritable and generally demotivated. I’m hooked.
I know, very clearly that when people consistently comment that I always seem calm, in control and relaxed that this comes from exercise and a lot of practice. It definitely helps me to be a better trainer and it now appears that the whole time it has also been making me smarter. Excellent.
If you are a trainer or teacher and don’t exercise then all I can do is encourage you to start. Start small. You don’t have to run, walk. Ride a bike which I do regularly on the weekend. It is just fun. I can tell you that a beer tastes a lot better have a good bout of exercise. That can be a motivator if you need it.
Who doesn’t want to be smarter?
