Recently I conducted a fairly standard training day and for me it just didn’t click. I couldn’t at the time put my finger on what was wrong but afterwards I realised it was fatigue. I was tired. It wasn’t just work. I had a lot of stuff going on in my life and I was tired. Now I can fake enthusiasm and fake the appropriate body language if required but I can’t fake performance mental processing. I just couldn’t get my fatigued brain to react and process as quickly as I needed it to do. I don’t think anyone really noticed but I did. I had one day’s rest and then delivered another full day program and it was great. Everything worked and I was operating in that heightened state where the words flowed and the awareness of the group and individuals was high. So what was the difference? I little bit of rest and downtime. That’s all.
So the message of this post is you need to rest your brain on a regular basis as a trainer if you want it to perform at its peak. If you do it will be beneficial for both your audience and you.
