Read this article first. Ok, it is a few months old but I think it is still true and has been true for a long time. People want to be good at their jobs and in fact be better. We are all motivated by what we are good at and by what we are masters at. Allow us to take our skills and knowledge to a mastery level and we are motivated and inspired. How, well of course one way is training, but there are many other pathways. So, why, and please jump in and explain, does education and training essentially come last on the list of government issues. I mean real government issues not some vague scheme that doesn’t equal what is happening in reality. As I watch TAFE NSW about to be radically cut back, schools poorly resourced and staffed and University funding cut it appears to me that there is a great disconnect between what we want as people and want government appears to be doing. Aren’t we the people really government or is that some stupid idealistic concept.
