Creativity, controversy, collectors item

I have just finished reading a really interesting, thought provoking and challenging book, Imagine by Jonah Lehrer. It was on the best sellers list, and I purchased it, and it lived up to the claims from various critics. I can recommend it to you as a excellent collection of information on how creativity works. My interest, as explained in previous posts is that I think great trainers are very creative and I have always wondered whether this was something you were essentially born with or could acquire through practice and training. It appears you can get more creative but like the bell curve there are some people who will always be more creative than others. We can’t all be creative geniuses. The short video below explains just one of the small concepts discussed in the book. The longer video below is off Jonah speaking about creativity.

Unfortunately Jonah got a little creative when he wrote the book and created some quotes for Bob Dylan that he never said and hence the controversy. Too be honest who cares. A small miss quote is not such a big crime and I am sure this is not the only book with some elaboration. But that’s not the way the book world saw it and Jonah lost his job at the New Yorker and they have removed the book from sale. I bought the book for $12 last year and I notice that it now sells on Amazon for $75. It has become a collectors item. Sadly for the wrong reasons. If you find a copy, read it. It is a great book, both interesting and informative.
