How do you keep up with technology? It moves so fast. And then there are the ups and downs. I was struggling during the week to get good internet speed and spent 1 hour on the phone to a very helpful technician trying to track the problem down. Then I read this article about a chip which will enable the download of 1 trillion bits per second. That’s 500 DVD’s. Wow. Apple releases its new Ipad and yes it is impressive and I bought three great text online, for a program I am writing, for less than the cost of one textbook and they were delivered in 30 seconds.
Back to the chip though. With that speed and faster broadband you can access and process information anywhere, on your mobile phone, or your tablet quicker than you can think it. Where does that leave education which is essentially the dissemination and assimilation of knowledge. Training? If you could get a video on anything in a second why do you need a trainer? I learnt a particularly difficult drum sequence last week by watching a Youtube video. What do you think? Are you ready to be a designer rather than a teacher?
