There is a lot of talk (and writing) recently about being an expert. What does that actually mean? Wikipedia says (and they seem to be experts) is someone widely recognized as a reliable source of technique or skill whose faculty for judging or deciding rightly, justly, or wisely is accorded authority and status by their peers or the public in a specific well-distinguished domain.

Wow – so basically someone who we all think is good at their stuff. So if you think you are an expert trainer, then you must be good, reliable and recognised by your peers as such.

A new blog has sprung up which is about being an expert. This is their idea of what it takes to be an expert. Read here. So is that it. No? What do you think?

For me an expert is someone who exceeds others in knowledge, skill and technique. One that the masses aspire to be. One that you listen to and attempt to copy.

Are you an expert?

Below is an old video that I did on practice. You want to be an expert you need to practice for many hours (Gladwell theory says at least 10,000hrs) and you need to expand your knowledge, skill and attributes by constantly challenge your status.

Every expert I have read quotes from never, ever considers that they are an expert,. They are still trying to be better. Are you?
