I’m confused. This is the statement from Peter Garrett,
Australia risks lower living standards and lost wealth if it doesn’t improve its education system, Education Minister Peter Garrett said in Sydney today.
Failure to improve the nation’s schools would result in a loss over the next 80 years equal to Australia’s current annual economic output of A$1.5 trillion ($1.55 trillion), Garrett said, announcing details of a study of the education system by PricewaterhouseCoopers. (full article can be read here).
Then from NSW (my home state)
Education spending in NSW will be slashed by $1.7 billion with independent schools expected to share the pain with the public system. (full article here)
And then to just really confuse me –
EDUCATION Secretary Armin Luistro welcomed on Thursday the A$85 million the government of Australia has donated to strengthen the madaris education system in the country as part of the peace-building efforts in Mindanao. (full article here)
What is going on!!!!!
We slash education budgets, knowing that it will hurt our future as a country and then give education dollars to another country to help them out. Maybe I am losing it but I can’t make and sense of this. If you can please comment below.
