A to Z of excellent trainer traits competition – Part 4

It was a tough round last week. J wasn’t an easy letter. We did have some very good contributions though. Last weeks points went to: 3 points to Matt (Janus – read Matt’s explanation), 2 points Sarah (Juggle) and 1 point to Lin (Justification). I liked to thank Matt for his contributions as he has taught me two different words that i didn’t even know  existed. As we are in the middle of the competition the current score board looks like this:

Lin  1

Steve  1

Sarah  2

Matt  4

Stuart  5

Greg  5

At this point anyone can still take the competition out. If you want to look at the past entries just select competition in the categories search on the top left hand side of the blog and to look at the prize summary click here.

To raise the competitive stakes this week you have to complete the two blank traits below. You can only score points if you  tackle both letters.

This week we start with M?

M – Manager.  An excellent trainer has to effectively manage many factors including the development and design of the training, the organisation of the training, the training room, the group dynamic, the individual needs and requirements and most importantly the efficient and effective management of themselves. Many trainers believe that they are just there to layout the information involved in the training program and that all that management stuff is someone else’s problem. Trainers like that aren’t successful and are generally poorly organised and prepared for the many and varied problems and issues that can occur in any training program.

N – ? (one for you)

O – Original. I could have chosen organised here but that is pretty closely aligned to management. The best trainers I have seen are themselves. They don’t copy others’ formats and styles. They have their own style which has been perfected over time and they look and sound natural, in control and professional. They use other people’s content (like we all do) but they add their own original touch and spin to it. They have their own original stories, anecdotes and examples and they develop their own original games, activities and learning resources.

P – ? (the second one for you)

So the letters for you this week are N & P. You must do both. Good luck to all the contestants.
