A to Z of excellent trainer traits competition – Part 5

Sorry for the delay in this round. I was away for the Easter Weekend and there was no power and no phone lines so technology was not on the agenda. A bit of controversy last week, which was probably my fault as I didn’t make it completely clear. Anyway the judge has taken this into account and last weeks winners were, Gabrielle 3 points, Lin 2 points and Matt 1 point. The current tally is:

Lin  3

Gabrielle 3

Steve  1

Sarah  2

Matt  5

Stuart  5

Greg  5

This week it is back to one letter and you can only nominate one entry per comment. This week we start with Q.

Q – Quality orientated. Quality is probably important for every job holder. For a trainer it is critical as every aspect from program design to delivery will be seen and used by a small to large number of people. Those people are expecting to get the best, well researched information, knowledge, skill and experienced advice. They depend on it. A trainer who does not provide quality will let themselves down , their profession and many participants. This may in some cases have limited impact but at times it can have dramatic, far reaching consequences, even death.

R – Reasonable. A good trainer has to be sensible, empathetic, understanding…in other words reasonable. This is often difficult to do but as part of the professional service it must be achieved. Many things can happen before, during and after a training or assessment event and as people are the most important part of the trainer’s job a reasonable, cool and level headed approach which balances the needs of all is required.

S – ?  (This one is for you)

T – Time management. Everything a trainer does has a time component to it. Think about it. If you are not excellent at time management you are either letting yourself down, a range of participants or a client. Everything must be done in a timely manner.

This weeks letter is S. Good luck to all contestants.
