Every now an then you have to do something that is a little different to what you are used to. The Virtual Worlds Best Practice Event is one of those events. Its free to attend and of course it is held in a virtual world. To do this you do need to become a resident of Second Life. Now that conjures up a whole series of dark and frightening scenarios for some people but honestly there is nothing in second life that can hurt you and it is a relatively straight forward process. It doesn’t cost anything to join and wander around. The Virtual conference is being held on the 12 & 13th of March. You will need to follow the calendar provided on their website because there are different time zones.
So if you have a little bit of spare time join second life. Get the hang of moving around and travelling and then register for the conference and attend. You will watch, listen and chat to people all over the world or you can just sit back and observe. If you are ever feeling odd or believe you are making some sort of mistake exit second life and you simply disappear. I have done that a few times.
Is this the future of eduction? I know that just about every major university in Australia has a second life campus and I have attended events held by Macquarie university. All of them were very entertaining. Try it out and let me know how it went.
